STARR RIDGE VINEYARD – AMBER BLOCK 2012
Thomas George Estates
ESTATE PINOT NOIR BRUT ROSE
Founded in 2008, Thomas George Estates Winery is an artisan Russian River Valley producer of small lot, vineyard designated wines with a focus on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
Thomas George Estates is run by the father-and-son team of Thomas and Jeremy Baker—who have dedicated themselves to establishing a world-class winery focused on site-specific Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays grown in the cool heart of the Russian River Valley. The essence of our winemaking philosophy is to respect and reflect in our wines their vineyard, varietal and vintage.
To realize this vision, the Baker family has assembled an estate vineyard program that includes four distinct and coveted vineyards— Baker Ridge, Starr Ridge, Cresta Ridge and Sons & Daughters Ranch. Offering a diversity of microclimates, soil types, exposures, vine age and clonal material, these exceptional vineyard sites provide Thomas George Estates with a complex palette of fruit from which to craft its limited-production wines. These artisan wines are handmade in small lots in a style emphasizing balance, brightness and terroir inspired sophistication.
Russian River Valley, California
100% Pinot Noir
The 2012 Brut Rose is made from 100% Pinot Noir from Starr Ridge Vineyard, Amber Block (clone 115). 3.27 tons were harvested in the early morning on August 23 at a brix of 20.2 degrees.
The fruit was whole cluster pressed to tank at about 120 gal./ton, cold settled, racked off, and allowed to ferment dry. The base wine was then put to bottle with a mix of active yeast and allowed to ferment again under pressure, allowing the wine to retain its bubbles. After about a year on yeast, the wine was riddled and disgorged.
Pale orange in color. High-pitched red berry and orange zest aromas with suave mineral notes. This wine shows very good punch to its strawberry and bright cherry flavors along with a hint of chalk. The finish is long and lingering with fresh, bright acidity.
