60% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon
2016 has been a remarkable vintage in the Bordeaux region, reminiscent of the legendary 1990 in terms of both quantity and quality. It was a fairly challenging year for winegrowers, with a very wet start to the growth cycle(800 mm of rain over the first six months of the year), a very dry period from July 1st to September 13th, and finally localized thunderstorms and a beautiful Indian summer that enabled the grapes to reach optimal ripeness. Harvest was from September 9th through 28th. The red wines are rich, smooth and fruity, with tannins of a rarely obtained maturity and very deep colors.
Vinification was carried out in the traditional method and with thermovinification (50% of the batches). The selected plots were vinified separately in stainless steel vats, after being de-stemmed and crushed. This was followed by alcoholic fermentation under temperature control and maceration over the course of 2 weeks.
The majority of ageing took place in stainless steel vats with 40% of the blended wines in oak. Fining with egg whites and cold stabilization were conducted before bottling the wine. Continual controls (sensory, microbiological and chemical) were carried out throughout the wine making stages.
Deep crimson color. Intense and very expressive nose, dominated by fresh fruit aromas (red currant, raspberry) blended with discreet notes of oak. On the palate, structured, round and easy, nicely oaked with firm but silky tannins and a long, fresh and fruity finish.
