DOMAINES BARONS DE ROTHSCHILD (LAFITE)

Légende

SAINT-EMILION 2014

Background

The prestigious Barons de Rothschild family has owned vineyards in Bordeaux for generations. In addition to the wines issued from their world-renowned vineyards, Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) has been elaborating a range of wines which are easy and pleasant to drink called “Légende”. Inspired by a grand tradition of quality, the Domaines teams have one priority: selection. Their mastery and perfect knowledge of Bordelais cépages are responsible for the unparalleled quality of their wines.

Appellation

Saint-Emilion (Bordeaux), France

Varietal Composition

95% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc

Vintage Notes

The summer of 2014 was rather gloomy, little sunshine and low temperatures. Beautiful weather arrived in early September and stayed consistant until the end of October, saving the vintage. The Indian summer gave the vines optimal ripening conditions, and the grapes reached a balance between sugar, acidity and phenols worthy of a great vintage. The Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc benefited the most from the superb late season and offered excellent quality.

Winemaking

The harvest took place from September 24th to October 5th. Vinification took place in stainless steel vats and alcohol fermentation took place at 86°F, maceration took approximately 3 weeks.

20% of the final blend is aged in barrels.

Tasting Notes

Medium intensity ruby. Refined and aromatic, the nose combines aromas of leather and sweet spices with woody notes (vanilla). Rounded, full-bodied attack; this is a supple wine with plump, soft tannins, and a pleasantly fresh finish.
