Los Vascos

ROSÉ 2015

Los Vascos wines blend Lafite tradition with the unique terroir of Chile to create elegant wines that bring exceptional to the everyday. The vision of Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) to expand their estate took them to South America in 1988, becoming the first French viticultural investment in modern Chile. Since then, a comprehensive modernization and investment program has been undertaken, oriented towards the production of fine wine using and adapting the viticultural experiences of Bordeaux and other areas where Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) is present.
Los Vascos is located in Valley de Caneten (Colchagua), a closed valley in the central zone of Chile, approximately 25 miles from the sea. The valley provides a perfect microclimate for high quality viticulture, with Northern exposure to lands uncontaminated by airborne or water-borne pollutants. Daily on-shore winds provide temperature changes between 68-77°F, for optimum maturation of the grapes.

Varietal Composition

90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Syrah

Vintage Notes

2015 was marked by unusual climate conditions during bud break and rain concentrated mostly in September. Although such conditions led to a late bud break, the grapes were of outstanding quality. For this rosé, an optimal irrigation regime produced small-sized berries of intense color with high-quality tannins. Efficient vineyard management and an absence of extreme temperatures resulted in a normal harvest.

The harvest took place 10 days earlier than the previous year, between March 9th and 12th. The fruit is sorted before being chilled and then macerated for a few hours, it is then pressed to obtain the juice, which is fermented at low temperatures to keep all of its potential intact. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats under controlled temperatures between 54° and 57°F.

Tasting Notes

Bright, pale pink color. On the nose, aromas of strawberries, raspberries, cherries and pomegranates underscored by white chocolate and sugar syrup. The palate is fresh, balanced and persistent. A rosé to be enjoyed while still young to appreciate the fruit expression at its best. Serve chilled, between 52° and 55°F.
