DOMAINES BARONS DE ROTHSCHILD (LAFITE)
SAUVIGNON BLANC 2015
Los Vascos wines blend Lafite tradition with the unique terroir of Chile to create elegant wines that bring exceptional to the everyday. The vision of Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) to expand their estate took them to South America in 1988, becoming the first French viticultural investment in modern Chile. Since then, a comprehensive modernization and investment program has been undertaken, oriented towards the production of fine wine using and adapting the viticultural experiences of Bordeaux and other areas where Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) is present. The vineyards are in the Casablanca Valley located further north between Santiago and Valparaíso, which is renowned for its great Sauvignon Blanc production as well as some in Colchagua Andes and the Leyda Valley.
Casablanca Valley, Chile
100% Sauvignon Blanc
A frost-free spring with warm temperatures gave way to a rainless summer with historical peaks of 103° F during March. In the spring, light rains helped to retain the soil’s moisture without affecting the grapes. Total rainfall between May and August was 16 inches. The 2015 harvest began two weeks earlier than the previous year. The unprecedented high temperatures in March helped to remove almost all the pyrazine notes from the grapes.
The grapes were sorted before being chilled and macerated for several hours. They were then pressed, and the juice was fermented at low temperature in order to preserve all of the aromatic potential. Alcoholic fermentation took place in stainless steel vats under controlled temperatures to retain the grapes’ flavor and aroma potential.
Pale yellow color with glints of green. On the nose, aromas of fresh pineapple, pear, green apple and honeydew melon combined with citrus notes of grapefruit and lime, and hints of tarragon and thyme. The palate has exceptionally well-balanced acidity, with a pleasant coating sensation and good persistence.
